Our Story

At the Justamere Cafe & Bistro we pride ourselves in serving fresh flavourful foods with Something for Everyone in mind. Just-a-mere is a play on words emphasizing the laid back feel of our dining room where in the run of a day you will see business suits and work boots, among the young and the old. Now in our 7th year of business, we boast excellent cuisine in a relaxing and inviting atmosphere.

The name Justamere was also chosen in memory of the late Mary Elizabeth (MacLaughlin) Curry. She was an astonishing woman from Glace Bay, Cape Breton who raised 14 wonderful children. Every summer she would take the kids to Justamere Cottage in East Bay; a ritual that has continued with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to this day.

Get away from the hustle and bustle of life and let us indulge your senses. Join us at the Justamere Cafe & Bistro, where special attention goes into preparing every dish fresh to order. You can certainly taste the difference!

Eileen Curry

Eileen Curry
Founder and President

Eileen is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Business Administration concentrating in Entrepreneurship. Eager to apply the knowledge she acquired from her education, Eileen partnered with he brother Mark to launch the Justamere Cafe & Bistro with the vision of providing high quality food in an inviting and relaxed atmosphere.   Eileen hired professional chef, Bernard Balawyder to ensure that the menu offering would be exceptional.  Her upscale breakfast menu, available all day, immediately received a positive response from customers.  Chef Bernard`s experience combined with Mark’s enthusiasm has resulted in an exceptional kitchen team.  Now in her seventh year of operation,  the positive response from both the community and visitors, has been amazing.

After completing his Degree in Fine Arts in 2007 at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Mark decided to partner with his sister Eileen in opening a new restaurant in Antigonish.  Under the direction of Chef Bernard Balawyder, Mark discovered he has the same passion for fine cooking that he has for producing traditional fine art.  In collaboration with Chef Balawyder, Mark has developed tremendous cooking skills with wonderfully creative flavor fusion.

After five years the Justamere Café & Bistro has proudly promoted Mark Curry to Head Chef.  Mark continues to ply his profession as an artist.  Restaurant patrons are able to view Mark`s paintings and drawings which are on display alongside the works of several other very talented local artists.
