Fronch Porch Production – A Night of Traditional Jams at the Justamere, ft Rachel Davis, Jason Roach & Mary Beth Carty

$20.00

Friday February 13th, doors open 4:30pm, music starts 5:30pm, seating is frist come first serve.

Join us on Friday February 13th for a Valentine’s pre-party featuring three of Nova Scotia’s top traditional musicians, Baddeck fiddler and singer Rachel Davis, Chéticamp piano phenom Jason Roach, and local accordionist, guitarist, and singer Mary Beth Carty! This soirée is a Front Porch Production, with sound and MC duties by organic farmer Peter Leblanc of Margaree, Cape Breton. Menu is à la carte, doors open at 4:30pm with two sets of music and song beginning at 5:30pm. Advance tickets are $20, available now!

With a hard driving fiddle style and an infectiously joyful stage presence, Cape Breton fiddler Rachel Davis is a member of the Juno-nominated Celtic supergroup, Còig. Born and raised in Baddeck, Cape Breton, Rachel was named Traditional Singer of the Year at the 2020 Canadian Folk Music Awards. She has brought her music around the world, including across Canada, the United States, England, Scotland, France, and Australia. First learning the fiddle from her grandfather, Clarence Long, she fondly recalls sitting in a corner of his barbershop, squeaking away at tunes under his careful guidance.

Jason Roach is widely regarded as one of Cape Breton’s one of the most impressive piano players. Jason can seamlessly shift from softly caressing the keys to striking them with intense energy, delighting both traditionalists and fans of innovation. A native of Chéticamp, Jason began playing piano at age five and started focusing on traditional styles when he was thirteen. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from St. Francis Xavier University and has played on albums by Maybelle Chisholm McQueen, Sprag Session, and Còig.

Winner of the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award in the Traditional Singer of the Year category, Mary Beth Carty, from Antigonish County, brings a passionate, multilingual voice to the contemporary folk scene. She accompanies fiddle players on guitar, performs dance waltzes on accordion, and incorporates a range of pocket-sized instruments such as rhythm bones and guimbardes. Mary Beth has shared her music widely, performing at festivals in France, Austria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and across Canada, as well as on stages aboard cruise ships. His most recent album, Crossing the Causeway, has been released on international platforms including CBC, Radio-Canada, and BBC.
